Samy in China – second part of his exchange with Kai in Suzhou

Samy has spent all his summer holidays in Suzhou with Kai. Like Kai in Germany, Samy was warmly welcomed into his new family who were eager to show him their life. He had a chance to visit Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and of course Suzhou, went biking and on a hiking excursion with our Cari Jiang and he tasted wonderful food. Now, for the final two weeks in China, he is experiencing school life.

At 12 years old, Samy has had an amazing adventure and we are all very proud of him.

Every exchange demands a lot from our adventurers in terms of adaptability, openness to a new way of life, different daily routines.

Being confronted with another culture initially gives us a “shock”, comparable to jumping into ice-cold water. This jump immediately awakens all of our senses, resets us to zero, and opens us up to new impressions. It makes us question our way of life and life patterns, lets us look at them from the “outside”.

This applies to every exchange – the more our ways of life differ from one another, the greater the “temperature difference” 🙂 … In an exchange with China, the difference might be comparatively large.

Samy has taken on this challenge. Bravo Samy!
